چکیده

Phylogenetic analyses of VP1-coding sequences from viruses isolated from recent outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) are described. The PanAsia strain of FMD virus type O continues to be widespread throughout Asia, although other type O strains are also cocirculating in many countries. A new type O strain has been detected in India and the Middle East. Apparently new strains of types A and Asia 1 have been found in Iran and their possible origin is being investigated.

A first molecular epidemiological study of SAT-2 type foot-and-mouth disease viruses in West Africa.

Thirty-one viruses causing SAT-2 outbreaks in seven West African countries between 1974 and 1991, and four viruses representative of East and Central Africa were genetically characterized in this study. Four major viral lineages (I-IV) were identified by phylogenetic analysis of an homologous 480 nucleotide region corresponding to the C-terminus end of VP1. Lineage I comprised two West African ...

Epidemiological Research on Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease in Mainland China

Hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD), which has led to millions of attacks and several outbreaks across the world and become more predominant in Asia-Pacific Region, especially in Mainland China, is caused by several Human Enteroviruses including new enterovirus, coxsakievirus and echovirus. In recent years, much research has focused on the epidemiological characteristics of HFMD. In this artic...

Developing Vaccines against Foot-and-Mouth Disease: a Biotechnological Approach

Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is a contagious viral disease of livestock with significant economic effect. It is prevalent in various regions of Asia, Africa, and South America. The causative agent of this disease is called foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV), which is a member of Aphthovirus genus. Vaccination is an effective technique to prevent the complications of FMD and to eradicate the di...

Phylogenetic analysis of foot-and-mouth disease virus type O re-emerging in free areas of South America.

The nucleotide sequences of the complete VP(1)-coding region of foot-and-mouth disease viruses (FMDV), type O, isolated during the recent emergencies of the disease in free areas of South America (Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, October 2005, and Corrientes, Argentina, February 2006), were determined. Also established were the complete VP(1)-coding sequences of viruses occurring in neighbouring loc...
